Aura Dash: Tips, Combos and High-Score Strategy

We built Aura Dash, so we know exactly where the points hide — and it isn't where most players look. What follows is how the game really works under the hood, plus the handful of habits that separate a run that fizzles in thirty seconds from one that keeps climbing.
Master the dash: it's the whole name of the game
Click, tap, or press space and your core dashes: a quick burst of speed toward your cursor with a sliver of invulnerability on the way through, then a cooldown of just over a second. That cooldown is the glowing ring around your core. When it fills back up, you'll see a bright "ready" pulse. Learn to feel that rhythm without staring at it.
The dash is two tools in one:
- Your panic button. A wall of shards closing in with nowhere to go? Dash through it. The invulnerability window means you pass clean where you'd otherwise die. The best saves in Aura Dash look impossible until you realise the player timed a dash.
- Your greed button. During a dash your orb-grab reach widens, and you magnetise pickups. That orb parked on the far side of danger, the one you'd normally skip? Dash across, snatch it, and keep your combo clock alive.
The mistake is hoarding the dash "just in case" and dying with it available. It comes back every second, so spend it, and spend it often.
The one rule everyone gets wrong: the combo decays
Every cyan orb you collect bumps your multiplier up one, to a cap of x9. What the game doesn't spell out is the catch: the multiplier falls back to x1 if you don't pick up an orb in time. That's roughly two and a half seconds between grabs.
That single rule rewrites the whole strategy. You can't sprint to x9 and then hide in a corner playing keep-away; sit still and your multiplier quietly bleeds back to nothing. The skill isn't reaching a high combo; that takes about twenty seconds. It's keeping the pickup clock alive: a continuous, rhythmic stream of orbs while the arena tries to kill you.
Where the score actually comes from
Points arrive from several places, and the big ones scale with your combo:
- A passive trickle every frame you're alive, faster the higher your multiplier.
- A lump per orb, also multiplied by your current combo.
- Small bonuses for grazing shards and grabbing power-up orbs (below).
A run's value is almost entirely about time spent at a high, unbroken combo. The first few seconds at x1 are nearly worthless. A great run doesn't spike. It accrues, fast and smooth, because the player pinned the multiplier near the cap for a long, clean stretch.
The orbs don't move, so plan a route
The cyan orbs are stationary. They pop into fixed spots and sit there pulsing until you touch them. Because the combo is on a clock, don't think one orb at a time. Think in routes. As you sweep up the orb in front of you, your eyes should already be on the next, tracing a path that reaches it before the timer lapses.
Power-up orbs: grab them on sight
Every so often an orb spawns a little bigger and in a different colour. These are power-ups, and their chance climbs the longer you last:
- Violet = Shield. A generous stretch of invulnerability. Grab one just before you thread a tight gap, or to buy yourself a reset when the field gets ugly.
- Amber = Shockwave. Detonates on pickup and shoves every shard on screen outward, and it breaks the lock on any homers chasing you. This is your "get out of jail" button when you're surrounded. Save it for the moment you're genuinely boxed in.
Both keep your combo clock ticking too, so they're never a wasted grab.
Read the shards — and graze them for free points
Red shards spawn from the edges and drive across the arena, aimed at where you were. They come without warning and get faster the longer you survive. About a third are homers (they glow magenta) that curve toward you continuously, but they steer gently.
So the game rewards playing on the edge: skim just past a shard without touching it and you bank a graze bonus — a little score, a spark, and a nudge to your combo clock. Aura Dash actively pays you for cutting it close. So don't flee shards by a mile; lead a homer into a commit, then slice across its nose and collect the graze as it sails by. Dodging well is worth more than dodging safely.
Positioning: earn yourself room
Early on, anchor near the centre, the only spot with an escape route in every direction. Drift toward the walls only to grab an orb, then pull back to open space. As the shard speed ramps, a crowded corner that was survivable at minute one is a death sentence at minute three. Keep trading a little score-greed for a little breathing room, and remember the dash buys you an instant reset when a read goes wrong.
Putting it together: a run in five beats
- Open by chaining, not sprinting. Build the combo on safe, central orbs, but keep collecting.
- Hold the rhythm. Near the cap, your whole job is to never let the pickup clock expire while staying alive.
- Route around danger. Pick the next orb by which path is survivable, not closest.
- Graze on purpose. Bait homers, cut across, and cash the near-miss bonus.
- Spend the dash and the power-ups. They recharge; hoarding them is how good runs end early.
Underneath it all, Aura Dash is a moving meditation on greed versus survival, where the combo clock forces you to keep taking small risks forever. Think you can hold a clean x9 for two minutes? Play Aura Dash and find out, then tell us your best.
Frequently asked questions
How does the dash work?+
Click, tap, or press space to dash — a short burst of speed toward your cursor with a moment of invulnerability, then a cooldown of just over a second (the ring around your core fills back up). Use it to punch through a wall of shards, or to lunge for an orb you'd never reach safely. It's both your panic button and your greed button.
Does my combo multiplier last until I crash?+
No, and this trips up almost everyone. The multiplier decays back to x1 if you go too long without collecting an orb (about two and a half seconds). Grazing a shard also nudges the clock, but holding a high combo is really about a steady stream of pickups, never letting the timer run out.
What actually gives me points?+
A steady trickle every moment you're alive, plus a chunk per orb, both scaling with your combo. On top of that you get small bonuses for grazing shards and grabbing power-up orbs. A long, unbroken high-combo streak beats a few lucky grabs by a mile.
How do I deal with the shards that follow me?+
About a third of the shards curve toward you (they glow magenta). They steer gently and can't corner sharply, so commit to a direction to make one lean in, then cut hard across its path and bank a graze bonus as it skims past. Or just dash straight through it.
